Blog or whatever (Episode 13) March 4, 2008

Hey team.
Willie here with a quick note and a few bits of info, coupled with a list of unreasonable demands.
Firstly, if you check the Jackdaw4 video page this week, you should find another live offering from last November’s Soho Revue Bar gig. This time its ‘Frobisher’s Last Stand’. Thanks to everyone who wrote in complementing the live video for ‘My Little Gangsta’. Cheezy I know, but it does give one a warm tingle when you email in your complementary comments.
And now to the demands.
As you probably know, Bipolar Diversions will be out in record shops as of April 7th through Cargo Records, so we have begun a small cottage campaign (in the “homegrown” and not in the “public lavatories” sense) to try and raise awareness of the record, and hopefully sell a few more.
As of last week, approximately 250 local and national radio stations received a copy of Bipolar Diversions and now we need to encourage them to listen to it. Of course traditionally, a huge amount of money is spent on adverts in the papers, television appearances and viral campaigns and what have you, all of which mean that your local DJ has numerous opportunities to be reminded of a records existence, and none of which we can afford.
But the best way to encourage them to play it is when they believe that their listeners are requesting it. And so you’ve guessed what’s coming…
If you find yourself with a minute to spare could you email or text – many stations these days prefer the immediacy of a text request which makes life easier – your local station requesting a track from the album. If they don’t have it, they’ll be made aware of it’s existence, but the probability is that they will already have a copy, and they may well dig it out. Once is never enough. Please keep bugging them and do let us know if they play a track. It might be best to specify a track, perhaps ‘Frobisher’s Last Stand’, ‘Jesus Wants My Soul Back’, or ‘My Little Gangsta’ if the show is of a rockier persuasion.
Here is a response from a DJ below just as evidence that this kind of thing can work. It’s from a radio station on the Isle of Man and they’re playing the album this week…
“Jackdaw 4 is my cd of the week next week playing a track just prior to the 4.00 pm news each day. Tracks being played are
2,3,5,8 & 10. Why do groups swear on cd, it just stops it being played by us and I imagine other radio stations!!!”
Bob Harrison, “Afternoon Extra”, 2.00 pm till 5.30 pm, weekdays, Manx Radio, Isle of Man.
If you’ve got a free moment, email Bob and get him to play more but I’m guessing that ‘Sunshine’s Out Of My Arse’ has not been a favourite with him.
And please don’t stop there. The national stations need telling about the album and most of the shows on Radio 2 and Radio 1 take text or email requests. I know that Stuart Maconie of Radio 2 has a copy because I put it in his hands myself but I don’t suppose he’ll play it until people ask him to, so I’m hoping you’ll help out.
Contact Stuart
That’s it. No more haranguing this time I promise. Oh. Have you got your ticket for the Soho Revue Bar on Friday the 11th April yet?
Willie
